New product features for 2005

Richard Wallace, VP Engineering

The Double L engineering department has made many improvements to the product line for 2005.

Starting with the harvesters, we have introduced a new operator keypad with electronic return-to-center steering and return-to-depth for the digger bed. Digger depth is set electronically, not by chains or other mechanical depth stops. The tractor operator can thus set at any depth, and at any time, the digger blade depth. The keypad also has a digital display to inform the operator of blade position on both the left and right hand side, as well as steering axle position.

The drive train has been strengthened to increase bearing and shaft life. The main gearbox on the harvesters now has 1 ¾” diameter input and output shafts. The PTO jackshaft is also 1 ¾ diameter. A stronger, improved fan drive spins a redesigned seven-blade fan. The new fan consumes 9% less horsepower than previous fans, yet puts out more airflow. In typical operation, the power savings amount to about five horsepower.

Our piler/stacker lineup has received changes that allow them to operate in more strictly controlled environments and handle a larger variety of products. Pilers can have food grade oil which allows them to operate in a food processing application. The recently introduced Omnex wireless control is now connected to a Rexroth valve for the most reliable wireless system available.

The self-unloading beds continue to lead the market with the strongest bodies available. The hydraulic system has all the fluid control components integrated in a single aluminum manifold. This reduces the number of external hose fittings and the potential for leaks. To meet sugar beet dump requirements, a back door switch is available in the tractor cab.

A quick-connect system for attaching conveyors is in the final stages of development and will be available late 2005, along with low-profile jacks make conveyor line movements easier.

The Double L engineering department believes in specifying the highest quality components and robust designs because we know conditions are not always average. We recognize that growers place an entire year's work on the line when it comes to harvest. We feel that by building our equipment to a higher standard, we provide the grower with the best value.
